Blacksburg, VA – The first widespread freeze of the season is expected tonight across western Virginia, bringing subfreezing temperatures and frost to much of the region, according to the US National Weather Service Blacksburg.

A Freeze Warning is in effect west of the Blue Ridge as temperatures drop into the mid-20s to low-30s overnight. In the Piedmont region, a Frost Advisory has been issued, with widespread frost expected by early Friday morning.

Forecasters warn that another night of freezing conditions is likely Friday, marking the season’s first significant cold spell. Residents are urged to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing or bring them indoors to avoid freeze damage.

Temperatures are expected to slowly moderate over the weekend, but early morning frost could persist in valleys and sheltered areas.
