Blacksburg, Va. – Thunderstorms are set to rumble across Virginia through Thursday, with the strongest storms likely Thursday afternoon as a cold front sweeps through. The unsettled stretch may bring heavy downpours, gusty winds, and localized flooding across both the mountains and the Piedmont.
According to the National Weather Service office in Blacksburg, scattered showers and storms will develop today and Thursday, with mountain highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s and Piedmont temperatures climbing into the low 80s. The agency warned that some storms could intensify late Thursday, especially along and ahead of the advancing front.
Communities from Roanoke to Danville should prepare for brief but intense rainfall that could impact evening commutes and outdoor events. Drivers are advised to watch for ponding on roads, while those in flood-prone spots should remain alert for rapid water rises.
Relief comes Friday, when skies turn partly sunny and temperatures warm into the mid-80s in the Piedmont and upper 70s in the mountains. The calmer pattern will carry into the weekend, offering a welcome break from the stormy stretch.
