Blacksburg, VA – Temperatures are climbing fast across Southwest Virginia, with a 20 to 30-degree jump set to peak by Tuesday afternoon and intensify into Wednesday, pushing highs into the 80s and changing conditions for travel, outdoor work, and early-season heat exposure.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Monday begins the warming trend with afternoon highs reaching the mid-60s region-wide before a sharper rise Tuesday, when many communities hit the mid to upper 70s by 3 p.m. The agency notes this marks the coldest morning of the stretch, followed by a steady climb into midweek.
Cities along the I-81 corridor, including Roanoke and Lexington, are expected to reach around 80 to 81°F Tuesday afternoon, while Lynchburg and Danville could push slightly higher near 81°F. Mountain communities like Boone and Wytheville stay cooler but still reach the upper 60s to mid-70s.
By Wednesday, the warmest air settles in. Lynchburg and South Boston could reach 85°F by mid-afternoon, with Danville near 84°F and Roanoke topping out around 82°F. Even higher elevations, including Blacksburg, climb into the upper 70s.
Residents should prepare for rapid temperature swings by adjusting outdoor plans, staying hydrated, and checking cooling systems early in the season. The quick warmup may also increase fatigue for those working outside.
The warming trend holds through Wednesday afternoon, with additional updates possible as conditions evolve later in the week.
