Blacksburg, Virginia – Scattered snow showers are ending across the Blacksburg area Thursday, but gusty winds will persist throughout the day, followed by a quieter Friday and another round of rain and snow this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg.
Forecasters say snow showers across the mountains will taper off today, while gusty winds continue across the entire region. Temperatures today will remain cold, with highs in the upper teens to mid-20s across the mountains, including Blacksburg. Winds will make conditions feel colder, especially during the afternoon hours.
Friday will bring a brief break in active weather. Conditions are expected to turn dry and less windy, with temperatures rebounding into the upper 30s to low 40s in the mountains and around 40 to mid-40s in the Piedmont.
Another weather system is expected to arrive over the weekend. The National Weather Service forecasts a return of rain and snow Saturday into Sunday, with temperatures trending colder behind a sharp cold front. In the mountains, Saturday temperatures may reach the upper 30s to low 40s, before dropping to the upper teens to mid-20s on Sunday. Piedmont areas will see milder temperatures Saturday before cooling sharply Sunday into the 30s.
While snowfall amounts have not yet been specified, forecasters note that changing temperatures could affect precipitation type, particularly in higher elevations. Travel conditions may deteriorate at times this weekend if snow develops in the mountains.
Residents are advised to monitor forecast updates as the weekend approaches, especially those with travel plans.
Commuters, students, and outdoor workers in the Blacksburg area should be prepared for gusty conditions today and a notable weather shift over the weekend.
