Blacksburg, VA – A cold front moving through southwest Virginia will bring gusty winds and light rain tonight, setting up a breezy and unsettled start to the weekend.
According to the US National Weather Service Blacksburg, winds will increase through the day Friday, with gusts of 20–25 mph in the mountains by afternoon. Most of the region will see light rainfall tonight, generally under 0.25 inches, as the front moves east overnight.
Forecasters say the rain will taper off early Saturday morning, leaving behind cooler and partly cloudy conditions. Another round of more widespread rain and a significant temperature drop is expected Sunday night into Monday as a second, stronger system approaches.
While rainfall tonight will be minor, drivers should be prepared for wet roads and occasional low visibility in higher elevations. The weather service also reminds residents to secure outdoor items ahead of gusty winds, particularly in Wytheville, Bluefield, and Blacksburg.
