Blacksburg, VA – A stretch of unseasonably warm weather continues across Southwest Virginia, with high temperatures climbing into the mid-80s through Sunday. But residents should prepare for a shift, as a cold front moving in late Sunday brings cooler air and an increased chance of thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Friday’s highs will reach between 78°F and 86°F, with isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible. Saturday remains warm, with highs near 80°F, but only a slight chance of rain, primarily in the mountains.

Storm chances increase significantly Sunday, with widespread rain and thunderstorms likely as the front moves through. Highs will dip into the upper 60s to low 70s, marking the beginning of a notable temperature drop.

By Monday, cooler conditions take hold, with morning showers tapering off and highs ranging from 50°F to 62°F. Temperatures fall further Tuesday, with lows in the upper 20s to mid-30s across the region and highs struggling to exceed the low 50s.

Drivers should stay alert for slick roads during storm periods, and residents are advised to secure outdoor items ahead of gusty winds early next week. Light winter gear may be needed by Tuesday morning as wind chills fall below freezing.
