Rapid City, SD – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 6 a.m. Wednesday for the Northern Black Hills in South Dakota and the Wyoming Black Hills, according to the National Weather Service in Rapid City.

Forecasters said additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected overnight, with hazardous travel conditions likely across the higher elevations. Communities including Deadwood, Lead, Sundance, and Cheyenne Crossing are expected to see the heaviest totals before the system tapers off early Wednesday morning.

According to the weather service, roads—especially bridges and overpasses—may become slick and hazardous, leading to difficult travel during the early morning hours. Drivers are urged to slow down and leave extra space between vehicles when traveling through the area.

The advisory is expected to expire by sunrise as snow diminishes across the region, though lingering slick spots may continue into the morning commute.

Motorists can check the latest road conditions by calling 511 or visiting their state’s Department of Transportation website before heading out.
