Rapid City, SD – The National Weather Service in Rapid City has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Northern and Wyoming Black Hills, effective from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. MST Saturday. Forecasters expect several inches of snow combined with strong winds that may reduce visibility and make travel difficult.
According to the advisory, snowfall totals of 3 to 5 inches are expected, especially at elevations above 5,000 feet, with wind gusts up to 45 mph at times. The system will bring periods of blowing and drifting snow that could make roads slick and hazardous throughout the day.
Communities affected include Lead, Deadwood, Nemo, Brownsville, Sundance, and Four Corners. Motorists should allow extra travel time, reduce speed, and be prepared for quickly changing conditions in higher elevations.
The Weather Service cautions that strong winds could also bring down tree branches and cause brief power disruptions.
Residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts and check road conditions by dialing 511 before heading out.
