Bismarck, ND – Roads across much of North Dakota could become snow-covered and dangerous within hours early Friday as heavy snowfall spreads north, threatening to disrupt travel through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, a Winter Storm Warning begins as early as 1 a.m. Friday across southwest North Dakota and expands by 7 a.m. into central and southeastern areas, continuing through Saturday afternoon . Snow totals will range from 6 to 12 inches, with some areas carrying a 20 to 40 percent chance of exceeding 12 inches. Winds may gust up to 35 mph, leading to blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Cities including Dickinson, Mandan, and Bismarck will see rapidly deteriorating road conditions Friday morning. Along Interstate 94 and Highway 83, snow may accumulate quickly, creating slick surfaces and drifting, especially in open areas.

In the James River Valley, including Jamestown and Carrington, heavier bands of snow combined with wind could make travel difficult through Saturday. A brief period of freezing rain may also develop early Friday in southern مناطق, adding a layer of ice beneath the snow.

Drivers should delay non-essential travel, check 511 for road conditions, and prepare emergency kits. Hazardous conditions will persist through Saturday, with additional alerts possible as snowfall totals increase.
