Birthday Party in Kankakee Marred by Gunfire, 15-Year-Old Shot, Critically Injured

Kankakee, IL – A birthday party in Kankakee turned tragic late Friday night when gunshots erupted, leaving a 15-year-old in critical condition and five others injured.

According to a Kankakee Police Department press release, officers responded to multiple gunshots fired in the area of 700 N. Hobbie Avenue near Pioneer Park at approximately 11:50 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a large group gathered near the Field House for a birthday celebration.

Two gunshot victims were located at the party scene, while a third was found in the 1000 block of E. Birch Street sitting in her vehicle, which had also been struck by gunfire. Officers immediately provided first aid to the victims and called for an ambulance. The Kankakee City Fire Department arrived and transported the victims to a local hospital. Three additional gunshot victims self-transported to the hospital.

The 15-year-old victim, who was attending the birthday party, is in critical but stable condition. The remaining five victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
