Birmingham, Ala. – Another round of summer storms is set to disrupt travel and outdoor plans across central Alabama today, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s before thunderstorms roll through this afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, widespread showers and storms are expected mainly during the afternoon hours, with some activity continuing into the evening. High temperatures will reach 88° in Tuscaloosa, Jasper, and Fayette, while Clanton and Birmingham will top out near 87° to 88°.
The threat spans much of north-central Alabama, including Gadsden, Anniston, and Alex City, where temperatures will hover in the mid-80s. Residents should prepare for possible ponding on roads and isolated power outages. Storms may bring heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds, especially along I-65 and I-20 corridors.
Tonight, low temperatures will settle in the low 70s, offering little relief from the humidity. Rain chances remain elevated, particularly in areas already saturated from weekend storms. Those in flood-prone zones should stay alert and avoid driving through high water.
More rain is likely through midweek as this unsettled pattern continues. Another update is expected by Tuesday morning.
