Birmingham, Alabama – Dangerous heat is gripping Central Alabama on Wednesday, with heat indices soaring as high as 108°F in Birmingham, Montgomery, and surrounding cities. Residents can expect muggy conditions and a heightened risk of heat-related illness through at least Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, a Moderate to Major Heat Risk is in effect for much of the region through Wednesday night, with a Moderate Heat Risk lingering into Friday. Temperatures will climb into the 90s, but high humidity will push “feels-like” temperatures into the triple digits. Heat-sensitive groups—including children, seniors, and those without effective cooling or hydration—are especially vulnerable.

Cities from Tuscaloosa to Anniston may see some relief as rain chances increase later in the week. Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected, but hot and muggy weather will persist, with highs in the lower 90s through the weekend.

Officials urge Alabamians to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities, and check on neighbors and pets. Cooler temperatures are expected Friday, but another round of above-normal heat could return next week. Heat advisories may be updated as conditions evolve.
