BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Central Alabama faces a wet weekend as daily thunderstorms continue, bringing the potential for heavy rain and localized flooding through Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, storm chances will rise each afternoon and evening, with rainfall amounts reaching 1 to 2 inches across the region. The heaviest totals are expected in southeast Central Alabama, including Montgomery, Troy, and Eufaula, where rain chances remain above 70 percent through Saturday.
Roads may become slick in Birmingham, Anniston, and Gadsden as showers develop through the evening commute. Tuscaloosa and Fayette could see more isolated storms, but areas farther east—including Auburn and Alex City—face stronger storm coverage with higher rainfall totals.
Drivers are urged to use caution on highways including I-65, I-85, and I-20, where reduced visibility and ponding on roadways may cause delays. Residents are encouraged to keep phones charged and secure outdoor items as gusty winds may accompany stronger storms.
The unsettled pattern is expected to ease by early next week, with drier conditions returning Monday. Until then, storms remain likely across much of Alabama, especially during peak afternoon hours.
