Birmingham, Ala. – Storm chances are climbing across Alabama as hot, humid air holds steady through midweek. Highs in the low to mid-90s will fuel scattered thunderstorms that could impact commutes and outdoor activities from Birmingham to Montgomery.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, a frontal boundary moving into the state will trigger more widespread showers and thunderstorms through Thursday. Rain chances rise across Jefferson, Tuscaloosa, and Shelby counties during the afternoon and evening, when storms are most likely to bring heavy downpours, gusty winds, and lightning.

Birmingham is expected to reach 94 degrees today, with Montgomery, Selma, and Demopolis near 95. East Alabama cities including Auburn and Alex City will top out closer to 90, though they face similar storm risks. Overnight lows will dip into the lower to mid-70s, adding little relief from the sticky humidity.

Drivers should be prepared for sudden downpours and ponding on roads during the evening commute. The NWS advises limiting outdoor work during peak heat and securing outdoor items ahead of gusty storms.

The unsettled pattern continues into Thursday, when highs ease slightly into the upper 80s to near 90 but storms remain possible across much of the state.
