Birmingham, Ala. – Central Alabama residents face another round of sweltering summer heat Friday and Saturday, with temperatures climbing into the low to mid-90s and heat indices reaching up to 105 degrees. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for much of the region through 7 p.m. Saturday, warning that prolonged exposure could quickly lead to heat-related illness.
According to the NWS Birmingham office, overnight lows will only dip into the 70s, offering little relief. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible each afternoon, which could bring brief downpours but won’t break the heat. The advisory covers major population centers including Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, and Anniston, as well as surrounding counties.
Officials urge residents to limit strenuous activity during peak heating hours, stay hydrated, and wear lightweight, light-colored clothing. Those without adequate cooling should seek out public cooling centers or air-conditioned spaces. Drivers are reminded never to leave children or pets in parked vehicles, even for short periods.
The dangerous heat is expected to persist into the weekend, with additional advisories possible if high humidity lingers.
