BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Afternoon and evening storms will be a daily concern across Alabama as summer heat lingers through the end of the workweek. High temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 80s and low to mid-90s, pushing heat indices even higher, while storm activity may bring brief downpours and lightning.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, the best chance for storms will come during late afternoon and early evening hours today and Friday. Areas including Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, and Anniston could see scattered cells, though most activity is expected to remain short-lived.

Montgomery is forecast to top out near 94 degrees, the warmest in the state, while Tuscaloosa, Selma, and Demopolis will hold steady around 91. Birmingham should reach near 90, while Alexander City and Auburn will stay closer to 89 or 90. Overnight lows will be muggy, falling into the low to mid-70s across much of central Alabama.

Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity during peak heat, stay hydrated, and keep an eye on radar for developing storms, especially if planning late-day travel or outdoor events.

Scattered thunderstorm chances are expected to continue into the weekend, with additional advisories possible if stronger storms develop.
