Birmingham, AL – Drivers across Central Alabama are urged to use caution this morning as the National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 9 a.m. CDT Thursday. Visibility may drop to a quarter mile or less in spots, particularly along major highways and low-lying areas.
According to the National Weather Service, the fog developed behind a recent cold front and will gradually lift by midmorning. Motorists are advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and increase following distance when traveling early today. Delaying travel may also be advisable in the most affected areas.
After the fog clears, skies will turn mostly sunny with afternoon highs in the low to mid-70s, and upper 60s possible in northern areas. Cooler air will return overnight, with temperatures dropping into the low to mid-40s.
Forecasters say rain-free conditions will continue through Sunday, offering several calm, clear fall days ahead following this morning’s dense fog.
