Birmingham, AL – After a brief break in wet weather, rain will return to central Alabama on Thursday, bringing a damp stretch that may last through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

Forecasters say rainfall totals between 1 and 3 inches are expected across the region, with the highest amounts likely to fall south and east of the I-20 corridor, including Montgomery, Selma, and Troy. Showers are expected to begin Thursday morning and persist into Sunday, with widespread rain chances above 80–90% for most areas through Friday.

While no flooding is currently anticipated, steady rainfall could lead to ponding on roads and slower commutes. Drier weather is forecast to return early next week as the system moves east.

Drivers and residents are advised to keep umbrellas handy and watch for reduced visibility during heavier downpours.
