BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A chilly start to November is on the way for much of central Alabama as a Frost Advisory remains in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday, with temperatures expected to dip as low as 35°F. The National Weather Service in Birmingham warns that sensitive vegetation could be at risk if left uncovered overnight.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory includes Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Etowah, Fayette, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Walker, and Winston counties. The coldest readings are expected in rural valleys and low-lying areas where frost is most likely to develop before sunrise.
Residents are urged to cover tender outdoor plants, bring in potted vegetation, and protect outdoor plumbing from the early-season chill. While no widespread freeze is expected, forecasters note that additional advisories could follow if temperatures fall further over the weekend.
Frost conditions should ease by mid-morning Saturday as sunshine returns, though another round of cold air is possible early next week.
Warnings remain in effect through 9 a.m. Saturday.
