Birmingham, AL – A Frost Advisory is in effect overnight across east-central Alabama as temperatures drop into the low 30s before a warming trend returns Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, the advisory runs from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thursday, with temperatures expected to fall as low as 33 degrees in some areas.
The greatest risk for frost formation will be across east-central Alabama, including areas near Gadsden, Anniston, Auburn, and surrounding communities. Calm winds and clear conditions will support frost development, especially on exposed surfaces.
Forecasters warn that sensitive plants, pets, and outdoor plumbing could be impacted by the brief cold snap.
Conditions will quickly improve after sunrise. Thursday is expected to bring partly cloudy skies and a noticeable warmup, with afternoon highs ranging from the upper 60s to lower 70s across central Alabama, including Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Montgomery.
Winds will remain light, generally out of the southwest at less than 10 mph.
The National Weather Service notes this pattern reflects a quick transition from overnight cold to mild daytime conditions typical of early spring.
The temperature swing may impact early morning commuters and students, especially in areas where frost develops before sunrise.
