Birmingham, Alabama – Cooler and more seasonable weather is returning to central Alabama, with fair conditions expected to dominate much of the upcoming week, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

In a social media update posted Sunday, the National Weather Service said typical January temperatures will settle across the region, with afternoon highs mainly in the 40s and 50s and overnight lows falling into the 20s and 30s. The cooler pattern follows recent fluctuations and is expected to persist through the workweek.

Forecasters noted that fair weather will prevail most days, offering generally calm and dry conditions for travel, outdoor work, and school schedules. However, residents should be prepared for a few passing showers possible sometime Wednesday into Thursday, though widespread rainfall is not expected at this time.

Temperature forecasts across central Alabama, including Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, Anniston, Auburn, and Gadsden, show consistent highs near seasonal averages through the end of the week. The return to colder nighttime temperatures may increase the need for cold-weather precautions, particularly for outdoor pets, sensitive plants, and those without adequate heating.

While no significant hazards were highlighted in the post, the National Weather Service emphasized that the cooler pattern marks a shift back to typical mid-January conditions, especially following milder stretches earlier this winter.

Residents are encouraged to monitor daily forecasts for any changes to midweek rain chances and to plan for chilly mornings and cool afternoons across central Alabama.
