Binghamton, New York – A noticeable warming trend is settling in across Central New York and the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania after a dreary start Wednesday, bringing milder temperatures and changing precipitation types through the end of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a rain and snow mix early Wednesday is tapering off by early afternoon, especially at higher elevations. Low clouds and patchy fog are expected to linger into the evening, keeping conditions gray even as precipitation ends. Daytime highs climb into the upper 30s and lower 40s for much of the region.

Communities including Binghamton, Ithaca, Cortland, Syracuse, Oneonta, and Scranton will continue to warm Thursday and Friday, with afternoon highs reaching the mid to upper 40s and even near 50 degrees in some valleys. The milder air will limit winter travel issues but could contribute to fog during the overnight and early morning hours.

Rain chances increase again Friday and persist into the weekend, with widespread rainfall expected through Sunday. Forecasters note colder air may return by Sunday afternoon, allowing snow to mix back in, particularly for higher terrain across the Catskills and Tug Hill.

Drivers should remain alert for reduced visibility during foggy periods and wet roads late in the week. Additional updates are expected as the weekend system approaches.
