Binghamton, New York – Snowflakes mixing with rain early this morning will quickly give way to steadier rainfall by late morning Friday, setting up slick roads and reduced visibility for drivers heading into the afternoon commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a weak system is producing light showers early today, with some areas seeing snow at the onset before temperatures climb into the low to mid-40s. By Friday morning, a warm front pushes through, sending temperatures into the upper 40s and 50s and allowing widespread rain to develop.

Rain chances climb sharply across central New York, with Syracuse, Ithaca, Cortland, and Binghamton all seeing probabilities between 75% and 91% through the day. Along the I-81 and I-88 corridors, drivers should expect wet pavement and periodic visibility drops, especially during heavier bursts of rain in the afternoon.

Farther south into northeast Pennsylvania, including Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, rainfall totals trend lower but still create slick travel during peak hours. Total rainfall across the region is expected to range from 0.25 to 0.75 inches by Friday night.

Drivers should allow extra time, use headlights in rain, and watch for ponding on roadways. Showers taper late Friday night, but additional updates may follow as the system exits the region.
