Binghamton, New York – Rising rivers and additional rainfall are creating a renewed flood threat across central New York today, with more rain expected to arrive before the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 8 p.m. for nearly all counties in the region as rivers and streams remain elevated. Several river flood warnings are already in place, especially across central New York.

Light showers moving through this morning will taper off briefly by early afternoon, but a more widespread round of rain is expected to redevelop by evening as a warm front lifts north. Rainfall totals could add another half inch or more overnight, increasing the risk for minor flooding.

The greatest concern is across the Southern Tier and Catskills, including areas near Binghamton, Elmira, and Oneonta, where heavier rain may lead to additional runoff and rising water levels.

Roads near low-lying and flood-prone areas, including sections of I-81 and Route 17, could see water ponding or minor flooding during heavier rain periods.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways and monitor river levels closely. The flood threat will continue into Thursday, with additional advisories possible as rain persists.
