The National Weather Service in Binghamton says the unsettled pattern is linked to lingering lake-effect activity before drier air arrives midweek.
According to the National Weather Service, showers will be most widespread across Broome, Chenango, and Cortland counties Monday night into Tuesday. Rainfall totals are expected to stay light, but intermittent downpours could slow travel along I-81 and Route 17. Conditions will shift by Wednesday morning as skies clear, bringing one of the brightest days of the week.
Temperatures will remain seasonably cool, holding in the 60s and 70s for daytime highs with overnight lows dipping into the 40s across higher elevations. By Thursday, forecasters say a cold front may spark the next round of showers, though timing remains uncertain.
Residents are encouraged to keep umbrellas handy through Tuesday, then prepare for cooler, crisp evenings as the week goes on. Additional advisories are possible later this week as the next storm system approaches.
