Binghamton, NY – Residents across central New York and northeast Pennsylvania should prepare for a chilly night as the National Weather Service in Binghamton has extended a frost advisory from midnight tonight until 8 a.m. Thursday.
According to forecasters, temperatures are expected to drop between 33 and 38 degrees, allowing frost to form in many areas. The advisory covers Steuben, Chemung, Tompkins, Madison, Southern Oneida, Cortland, Chenango, Tioga, Broome, and Sullivan counties in New York, as well as Bradford, Susquehanna, Wayne, Wyoming, Pike, and surrounding counties in Pennsylvania.
Cities under the advisory include Binghamton, Utica, Elmira, Ithaca, Rome, Monticello, Sayre, Towanda, Montrose, and Milford.
The NWS cautions that frost could damage or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left unprotected. Gardeners and farmers are encouraged to cover plants, bring pots indoors, and take preventive steps before temperatures fall after midnight.
This marks one of the season’s first widespread frost events for the Southern Tier, Catskills, and northern Pennsylvania — signaling the transition to cooler October nights.
