Binghamton, NY – High pressure will dominate the weather pattern across upstate New York this week, keeping conditions dry and skies mostly clear. According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, temperatures will swing from much warmer than normal to a brief taste of fall before warming again by the weekend.

Forecast highs will reach into the upper 70s and even low 80s Monday and Tuesday in several locations, including Scranton, Elmira, and Syracuse. A cold front arriving from Canada is expected to push through Wednesday into Thursday, temporarily dropping daytime highs into the 60s and overnight lows into the 30s and 40s.

By Friday, warmer air will quickly return, sending highs back into the 70s and near 80 degrees by Saturday and Sunday in many areas, including Ithaca, Wilkes-Barre, and Seneca Falls.

The National Weather Service notes that this weather setup will provide a “bookend” effect, with very warm conditions early and late in the week and a cool fall-like interlude in the middle. Residents can expect pleasant travel conditions, though the midweek chill will be a noticeable change after several unseasonably warm days.

This week’s weather highlights the transition into fall across New York and Pennsylvania, where strong cold fronts begin mixing with lingering late-summer warmth.
