Binghamton, NY – Residents in Binghamton and surrounding areas should prepare for significant snowfall this week as multiple waves of lake-effect snow sweep through central New York. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. Tuesday, with snow accumulations of 2–8 inches possible, depending on location. Drivers on I-81 should use caution, as road conditions may deteriorate quickly during heavy snowfall bursts.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton, the first round of snow will taper off by mid-morning Monday, leaving an additional 1–2 inches. A second, stronger snow band will develop late Monday afternoon and persist into the evening, bringing an expected 2–4 inches of fresh snow. This band will likely impact evening commuters, especially those traveling on major routes like I-81.

The third and final round is expected early Tuesday morning, lasting until midday. During this time, another 1–3 inches could accumulate, making roads slick for the morning commute. Wind chills will drop into the teens, so anyone venturing outside should dress appropriately to avoid frostbite.

The extended forecast shows snow showers continuing through Thursday, with temperatures hovering in the mid-30s. By Friday, conditions will begin to clear, but occasional snow is still likely.

Stay informed by checking for updates from the NWS and local emergency services. If traveling, ensure your vehicle is winter-ready and allow extra time for commutes. Avoid unnecessary trips during heavy snow bursts.
