Binghamton, New York — Dangerously cold conditions are expected overnight across the Southern Tier and central New York, with subzero wind chills forecast by early Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, overnight low temperatures are expected to drop into the single digits, including around 4°F in Binghamton, 6°F in Utica, and 7°F in Syracuse. Colder pockets across higher elevations and rural areas may dip even lower.
As winds persist, wind chill values will fall below zero across much of the region. Forecast wind chills include around -7°F near Binghamton, -3°F to -4°F near Ithaca, Cortland, and Auburn, and near -2°F around Syracuse and Utica. Some locations may briefly experience wind chills colder than -5°F late tonight.
Forecasters warn that exposed skin can be affected quickly under these conditions, especially during the overnight and early morning hours. While no winter weather advisories were issued with this update, residents are urged to take precautions due to the cold.
The coldest conditions are expected late tonight through early Wednesday morning, before temperatures slowly recover after sunrise.
Early morning commuters, students, and outdoor workers will be most affected by the overnight cold.
