Binghamton, NY – Below-normal temperatures will linger across central New York and northeast Pennsylvania on Tuesday, though conditions will be slightly warmer than recent days before a more active weather pattern develops later this week.
According to the National Weather Service office in Binghamton, Tuesday will feature mostly cloudy to partly sunny skies, with afternoon highs reaching the low to mid-30s, including around 34 degrees in Binghamton. While still chilly, temperatures will be a few degrees warmer compared to Monday.
A more noticeable warm-up is expected to begin Wednesday, with highs climbing into the mid-30s to lower 40s. A few light rain or snow showers may develop north of the New York Thruway corridor, but most areas are expected to remain dry.
Conditions change significantly Thursday night into Friday, as a stronger low-pressure system moves through the region. Forecasters say widespread rainfall is likely Thursday night, accompanied by gusty winds and steadily rising temperatures. Highs Thursday are expected to reach the upper 30s to mid-40s, helping keep precipitation mainly in the form of rain initially.
By Friday, colder air will return to the region. Rain is expected to transition to snow showers, especially later in the day, as temperatures fall from the upper 30s and 40s in the morning into the upper 20s and lower 30s by afternoon. Windy conditions may further reduce visibility and make travel uncomfortable.
Looking ahead to the weekend, forecasts favor drier and more seasonable conditions, with temperatures returning closer to normal for mid-December.
The National Weather Service advises residents to stay updated on forecast changes, particularly regarding rainfall amounts, wind impacts, and the timing of colder air late this week.
