BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to roll into the Southern Tier tonight, bringing a wet and unsettled stretch before conditions improve for the weekend. Drivers may face slick roads in Broome County and surrounding areas late tonight into early Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, rainfall could begin after midnight and last into the pre-dawn hours Friday, with a 70% chance of precipitation. While totals are expected to remain light, isolated heavier downpours are possible in thunderstorms. Lows will dip to the mid-50s, with light south winds turning calm overnight.
Friday morning could see a lingering shower before skies begin to clear. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 60s under partly sunny skies. Patchy fog is possible early Saturday, but the weekend itself looks favorable for outdoor events, including Labor Day travel and celebrations, with highs in the mid to upper 70s and abundant sunshine.
Travelers are urged to use caution on wet roads tonight and keep an eye out for reduced visibility in fog early Saturday. The next significant rain chance does not return until midweek.
