Binghamton, NY – Residents across central New York will face a frigid night ahead, with temperatures expected to fall into the single digits above and below zero by early Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service Binghamton.

Forecasters say skies will remain mostly clear as the region settles under a cold, calm air mass. Overnight lows will range from 0° to 5°F in Binghamton and Elmira, dipping as low as -7°F in northern areas such as Boonville and Cooperstown.

According to the NWS, winds will gradually diminish overnight, meaning wind chills won’t drop much below the actual air temperatures by sunrise. This calmer pattern provides some relief after recent blustery conditions but will still make for a very cold Friday morning commute.

Cold temperatures are expected to persist through much of Friday before moderating slightly over the weekend. Residents are urged to bundle up, protect pets, and check on vulnerable neighbors as the region endures one of its coldest nights so far this winter season.
