Binghamton, N.Y. – The Southern Tier stays quiet under sunny skies today, but stronger weather looms by Thursday afternoon as thunderstorms return to the region. Temperatures will run slightly above normal, reaching the mid-70s to low 80s before storms move in.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Thursday afternoon and evening, some of which could turn strong to severe. Damaging wind gusts remain the primary hazard, though heavy rain and brief power outages are also possible.
Cities including Binghamton, Syracuse, and Scranton–Wilkes-Barre should prepare for unsettled conditions during the Thursday evening commute. Drivers are urged to stay alert for sudden downpours, while residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items ahead of gusty winds.
The weather turns partly sunny Friday, though a few isolated showers may linger. By Saturday, scattered showers are expected across much of the region with cooler highs in the 60s to low 70s.
Conditions remain unsettled into early next week, and additional weather advisories may be issued.
