Binghamton, NY – Rain showers will continue across New York and northeast Pennsylvania today as a cold front moves through the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton.

The system is expected to bring scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, with the potential for a few isolated storms to turn severe across the Catskills and northeastern Pennsylvania. Damaging winds are the primary concern, though forecasters note a very low chance of an isolated weak tornado.

NWS warns that heavy downpours could also cause ponding on roads, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Rainfall totals of 0.25 to 1.25 inches are forecast across much of the region, with locally higher amounts possible.

Temperatures will remain seasonable, with highs in the 60s and 70s before storms taper off late this evening. The weather service advises drivers to use caution, as poor visibility and localized flooding may impact evening commutes.

Residents across New York’s Southern Tier, the Catskills, and northeast Pennsylvania are urged to monitor local forecasts and stay alert for severe weather updates.
