BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – A stretch of sunshine across New York’s Southern Tier will break Tuesday night as showers and isolated thunderstorms return to the Binghamton area.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, scattered showers are expected after 2 a.m. Tuesday night, with storm chances lingering through Wednesday evening. Rain could be heavy at times, and gusty winds may make travel difficult on I-81 and Route 17 during the Wednesday commute.

Cities including Endicott, Johnson City, and Vestal could see the heaviest activity Wednesday afternoon, when the storm window peaks. Though rainfall totals are not expected to cause flooding, slick roadways and reduced visibility could slow drivers across Broome and Tioga counties.

By Thursday, conditions improve with partly sunny skies and highs near 80, leading into a warmer stretch. Friday and Saturday are projected to be the warmest days of the week, with highs reaching into the low 80s under mostly sunny skies.

The National Weather Service advises residents to keep outdoor plans flexible Tuesday night and Wednesday and to monitor for any updated advisories.
