Binghamton, NY – Rain will taper off this morning across Central New York and northern Pennsylvania before a significant drop in temperatures tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton.

A Freeze Warning is in effect for northern Oneida County overnight, where temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s to low 30s, posing a threat to unprotected plants and outdoor plumbing. For most of the surrounding region, including Central New York and Pennsylvania’s Northern Tier, a Frost Advisory has been issued as temperatures hover near the freezing mark.

According to the Weather Service, today’s highs will reach the upper 50s to low 60s, with much cooler air settling in tonight. The advisory and warning are valid from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, and residents are advised to cover sensitive vegetation or bring plants indoors.

Forecasters say the region’s cool pattern will continue into the weekend, though daytime highs are expected to rebound slightly by Friday. Drivers may also notice patchy fog in low-lying areas during the early morning hours.

This cold snap follows several days of mild and rainy conditions across upstate New York, marking the area’s first widespread frost risk of the fall season.
