Binghamton, N.Y. – A stubborn upper-level low will keep the Southern Tier and much of Central New York locked in cool, unsettled weather through the weekend. Temperatures will struggle to leave the 50s, and periods of light rain will continue to dampen travel and outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service office in Binghamton, rain chances stay elevated through Friday, with the heaviest showers expected Thursday. Locations from Syracuse to Elmira could see steady light rain through Friday morning, tapering to occasional drizzle by evening. The unsettled pattern will gradually ease late Saturday as drier air filters in from the west.

Daytime highs will remain 10–15 degrees below normal for late October, ranging from the low 50s in Oneonta to upper 50s in Scranton and Hazleton. Overnight lows will dip into the 40s, with patchy fog likely in valleys and along I-81 each morning.

Motorists should allow extra time for reduced visibility and slick roads, especially during the Thursday morning commute. Outdoor events, including late-season sports and festivals, may need weather adjustments. Residents are advised to keep rain gear handy, dress in layers, and check for updated advisories from the NWS Binghamton office.

By Sunday, sunshine should briefly return, bringing a milder and more pleasant close to the weekend before another system approaches early next week.
