BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – A brisk northwest wind is ushering in cooler air across New York’s Southern Tier Thursday, marking a classic fall day of gusts, clouds, and temperatures well below early November averages.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, highs will only reach the upper 40s to near 50°F, with wind gusts around 20 mph making it feel several degrees colder. Skies will feature a mix of sun and clouds through the day, and while no precipitation is expected, the persistent breeze could cause minor travel inconvenience for high-profile vehicles along I-81 and Route 17.

Forecasters say a warming trend will take hold by Friday, bringing milder temperatures and increasing chances for scattered rain showers through the weekend. “Friday through Sunday looks warmer but unsettled, with several rounds of light to moderate rain,” meteorologists said.

Residents should prepare for changing outdoor conditions, securing loose decorations ahead of stronger gusts and keeping rain gear handy for upcoming days. Despite the cool winds, Thursday’s sunshine breaks will offer a brief reprieve before the wetter pattern arrives.
