Binghamton, New York – Drivers across Central New York could see occasional slick spots today as lingering lake effect snow showers weaken and shift north, with another round of light snow expected overnight into Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, the primary lake effect snow band is expected to drift mostly north of the region as the morning progresses, becoming less organized as winds turn more westerly. Scattered snow showers will continue today across Onondaga, Madison, and Oneida counties, though accumulations are expected to remain light.
Far northern Oneida County could still see periods of steadier snow through the morning hours, depending on where the weakening band ultimately settles. Elsewhere, snowfall amounts today are expected to stay minimal, with many locations picking up little more than a coating.
Attention then turns to tonight as a weak clipper system moves overhead, bringing more widespread light snow across the region. Most areas from the Southern Tier through Central New York can expect between a few tenths of an inch and up to around 2 inches by Sunday morning, with the highest totals favored north of the Thruway.
High temperatures today will generally stay in the 20s, limiting melting and allowing untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses to remain slick. Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and use caution during early morning and overnight travel.
Snow showers should taper off by Sunday morning, though additional advisories could be issued if bands linger longer than expected. Residents should monitor updates from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve.
