Binghamton, NY – Temperatures across central New York and northeast Pennsylvania are beginning a gradual warmup Monday, with afternoon highs climbing back above 20 degrees in many locations.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, Monday’s forecast marks a slow start to a broader warming trend expected to develop through the week. While morning conditions remain cold, daytime temperatures are forecast to reach the upper teens to mid-20s across the region.

Forecast highs Monday include temperatures near 23 degrees in Binghamton, 21 degrees in Ithaca, 22 degrees in Cortland, and 24 degrees in Elmira. Higher elevations and northern locations, including areas near Syracuse and Oneonta, are expected to remain closer to the upper teens.

Despite the modest improvement, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Monday, highlighting lingering morning chill before temperatures recover later in the day.

Weather officials note that a weak weather system is expected to bring light snow and a wintry mix on Tuesday, followed by additional lake-effect snow showers through midweek. No specific accumulation amounts were provided in the update.

Roadways including I-81, NY-17, I-88, and surrounding state routes may see typical winter driving conditions during the morning hours, particularly in colder valleys and elevated terrain. Drivers should continue allowing extra travel time early in the day.

This gradual warmup may be especially noticeable for commuters and students returning to normal schedules after recent colder-than-normal conditions.

Residents are encouraged to monitor future updates from the National Weather Service as temperatures fluctuate and additional wintry weather systems move through the region later this week.
