Binghamton, New York – Snow showers return tonight as a fast-moving clipper system moves through central New York and northeast Pennsylvania.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, partly sunny skies and near-normal temperatures are expected Friday before snow develops this evening. The clipper system will dive southeast from the Great Lakes overnight, bringing widespread light snow into the early morning hours.

Forecast snowfall totals from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. range from 1 to 3 inches across much of the region, including Binghamton, Syracuse, Cortland and Ithaca. Higher totals near 2 to 3 inches are possible north of the Southern Tier, while areas farther south may see closer to 1 inch.

Following the clipper, light lake effect snow showers are possible during the day Saturday, with additional accumulations generally under 1 inch.

Roadways including I-81, I-86, I-88, I-90 and Route 17 may become snow-covered overnight, especially during the early morning commute Saturday. Reduced visibility and slick travel conditions are possible during heavier bursts of snow.

Daytime high temperatures Friday are expected to range from the upper 20s to mid-30s before cooling overnight as snow spreads into the region.

For students and weekend travelers, the greatest travel impacts are expected late tonight into early Saturday morning.
