Syracuse, NY – Snowfall of up to 6 inches is expected tonight into Thursday, prompting winter weather advisories across Central New York and parts of northern Pennsylvania.

According to the US National Weather Service in Binghamton, updated snowfall totals show widespread accumulations between 3 and 6 inches, with higher totals concentrated near Syracuse, Auburn, Cortland, Hamilton, and Cooperstown. The advisory area includes communities along Interstate 81, Interstate 90, and surrounding state routes.

Forecasters generally issue winter weather advisories when at least 4 inches of snow is expected in New York and 3 inches in Pennsylvania. The advisory covers much of Onondaga, Madison, Oneida, Cortland, Chenango, and Otsego counties.

Projected totals include 4 to 6 inches near Syracuse, Auburn, Hamilton, and Cooperstown. Utica and Norwich are expected to see 3 to 4 inches, while Ithaca may receive 2 to 3 inches. Lower totals of 1 to 2 inches are forecast toward Binghamton and areas south toward the Pennsylvania border.

Snow is expected to continue through Thursday, potentially impacting the Thursday morning commute along I-81, I-90, and Route 13. Reduced visibility and snow-covered roads may slow travel during peak hours.

Students, early-shift workers, and interstate commuters may experience delays if snowfall rates increase overnight.

Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts and allow extra travel time Thursday morning.
