Binghamton, NY – Scattered storms are bubbling up west of the Finger Lakes and are set to impact Upstate New York communities from this evening into late tonight. Residents in Binghamton, Elmira, Ithaca, and Syracuse should prepare for periods of heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and dangerous lightning as the storms track east.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, storms will move in from the west after 6 p.m., bringing the potential for small hail and brief downpours across Chemung, Broome, Tompkins, and Onondaga counties. The strongest cells could cause localized flooding and power outages, especially along the I-81 and I-86 corridors.
Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roadways and slow down during heavy rain, as visibility could drop quickly. Lightning may be intense at times, posing risks to anyone outdoors. If thunder roars, move inside immediately, and keep electronic devices charged in case of outages.
Additional advisories may be issued if storms intensify or shift south toward Pennsylvania. Updates will continue through the evening as conditions evolve.
