Binghamton, NY – New York residents should brace for a wet start to fall as showers and thunderstorms target Broome County on Tuesday, September 23. Commuters across the Binghamton area may face slower travel, especially during morning and afternoon drives.

According to the National Weather Service, rain is likely after sunrise Tuesday, with storms possible by late morning. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent, and rainfall amounts could exceed a quarter of an inch in some areas. Thunderstorms may produce heavier downpours, raising concerns for drivers along Interstates 81 and 86. Residents are urged to allow extra travel time and remain alert to rapidly changing conditions.

Tuesday night will stay unsettled, with additional showers possible and lows near 61 degrees. The active pattern will continue into midweek. Wednesday offers only a brief break, with a 30 percent chance of showers in the afternoon before more widespread rain returns Thursday.

Thursday brings the most consistent rainfall, with forecasters calling for a 60 percent chance of showers and highs around 73. Showers are likely again Thursday night, with lingering rain Friday keeping highs in the mid-70s. Conditions may not fully dry out until Sunday, when partly sunny skies are expected.

With the fall season just beginning, meteorologists note this wet pattern is typical for the region. Cooler nights are likely to develop in early October, giving an early hint of winter’s approach.

Residents should keep an umbrella handy, monitor local forecasts, and plan extra time for travel this week.
