Billings, MT – Cooler air moving into south-central Montana this evening is expected to bring a mix of rain and snow, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Billings. The transition from rain showers to light snow is forecast to begin tonight, Sunday, October 12, and continue into early Monday.

According to the NWS, snowfall will primarily accumulate on grassy areas, though a few slick spots on highways—especially along U.S. 191—cannot be ruled out. Light accumulations of up to 3 inches are possible in the Melville Foothills and Judith Gap regions, with lighter totals in lower elevations.

The weather service advises travelers to use caution when driving through Livingston, Big Timber, and nearby mountain passes overnight and during Monday morning commutes. Temperatures are expected to dip near freezing, increasing the potential for slippery conditions in shaded and elevated areas.

While no major travel disruptions are anticipated, forecasters note that early-season snowfall can still impact recreation and transportation in the high country. Motorists are encouraged to check updated forecasts and allow extra travel time through Monday morning.
