Billings, MT – A major pattern shift will bring colder, unsettled weather to southern Montana beginning Sunday, with the National Weather Service warning of mountain snow and gusty winds across the region.

According to NWS Billings, a cold front will move through early Sunday morning, ending Saturday’s brief stretch of dry, warm conditions. Snow is expected to develop in the Beartooth and Absaroka ranges, where accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are possible above 7,000 feet. The Bighorn Mountains are forecast to see lighter totals, generally less than 3 inches.

Forecasters also noted gusty winds along the foothills west of Billings starting Friday night through early Sunday, which may create difficult travel for high-profile vehicles. Rain showers will mix with snow at higher elevations through Monday night, with temperatures dropping from the upper 60s Saturday to the low 50s by early next week.

Residents and travelers are advised to prepare for wintry driving conditions in mountain areas and monitor updates as this early-season system approaches.
