Billings, MT – A strong cold front moving into south-central Montana late Saturday is forecast to bring widespread rain, mountain snow, and gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service in Billings. Residents should also expect a sharp drop in temperatures Saturday night into Sunday.

The system is projected to deliver the highest precipitation totals west of Rosebud County, with the Billings area showing a 72% chance of receiving 0.50 inches or more of rainfall. Areas including Columbus, Red Lodge, Livingston, and Roundup are also forecast to see between 68% and 71% chances of significant precipitation.

The NWS map highlights a wide swath of elevated rain and snow potential stretching from Livingston to Roundup, while surrounding regions like Miles City and Ekalaka face lower precipitation probabilities. Travelers across I-90 and Highway 212 should prepare for slick conditions and reduced visibility in higher elevations.

Meteorologists warn that the front will bring not just rain and snow but also strong northwest winds and rapid temperature declines, creating early winter-like conditions across parts of Montana by Sunday morning.

Residents are advised to monitor official weather updates and prepare for changing road and travel conditions throughout the weekend.
