Billings, MT – A blustery and wintry stretch of weather is on the way for south-central Montana beginning Sunday, as a strong cold front moves across the region, bringing gusty winds, colder temperatures, and mountain snow through Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Billings, strong crosswinds will develop late Saturday night in the western foothills, with peak gusts up to 60 mph possible near Livingston, Gardiner, and Red Lodge. Winds will spread eastward through Sunday, making travel difficult for high-profile vehicles and potentially damaging unsecured outdoor items.
The weather service expects the cold front to drop snow levels, with the heaviest accumulations above 7,500 feet. Mountain areas near Cooke City and portions of the Beartooth and Absaroka ranges could see 2–6 inches of new snow by Monday morning.
Forecasters warn of slick and snow-covered roads on U.S. Highway 14 and U.S. 14A, especially near Burgess Junction and other high passes. Outdoor recreation and travel in higher elevations may be impacted through Monday morning.
Breezy conditions are expected to persist into Monday before gradual clearing later in the day.
