Billings, Montana – Snow and periods of freezing rain could create slick travel conditions across south-central Montana through Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Billings, a mix of precipitation types is expected across the region today, with snow more likely across northern areas and a mix of snow, freezing rain, and rain farther south.
Forecasters say light freezing rain is possible through Saturday morning, which could cause roads to quickly become icy and hazardous, particularly in and around the Billings and Columbus areas.
Widespread light to moderate snow is also expected across parts of the region, with additional snowfall totals varying by location. Communities including Miles City, Hysham, and Roundup could see around 4 to 6 inches, while higher elevations and mountain areas may receive significantly higher totals.
Officials say a cold front moving through later today may also bring gusty winds and additional rain or snow showers, adding to the unsettled conditions.
Snowfall across the region is expected to be wet and heavy, which could make shoveling more difficult and increase strain on livestock and outdoor animals.
Road reports already indicate icy conditions in several areas, and drivers are urged to use caution, especially during the morning hours.
The changing conditions may affect morning travel and weekend plans across south-central Montana, particularly along corridors such as Interstate 90 near Billings.
Residents are encouraged to check updated road conditions through 511 services and continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service Billings office.
