Billings, Mont. – A stretch of hot and dry weather will grip much of Montana through Tuesday, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s across the region. By late Tuesday night, a cold front will push in, bringing a noticeable cool down by Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, widespread hazy skies will continue early this week as wildfire smoke drifts across eastern Montana and northern Wyoming. Highs Monday and Tuesday will hover near 90 degrees in Billings, Sheridan, Hardin, and Miles City, with only a light breeze to stir the smoke.

By Tuesday evening, the approaching front will shift winds, ushering in cooler air. Highs on Wednesday will fall back into the upper 60s to low 70s in Big Timber, Livingston, and Broadus, while areas closer to the Dakotas could see the most significant drop. Scattered showers may accompany the change, offering some relief from the dry spell.

Drivers should be prepared for reduced visibility from lingering smoke through Tuesday. Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity until cleaner air moves in midweek.

Cooler weather is expected to hold through late week, with temperatures staying well below 80 degrees in most of Montana.
